dANCE

At Moxie Academy, we take a fresh and modern approach. Our dance classes are distinctly modern, and designed to get our students excited to move and develop their sense of rhythm and co-ordination. From Street Dance, to Hip Hop, Locking, Popping and Breaking, and even the latest Tik Tok dances being performed by everyone of a certain age around Croydon, Purley, London and Surrey, we keep things varied and relevant. We find this leads to a real sense of engagement, rapid progress on essential concepts in dance, and perhaps most importantly, a lot of fun on the floor.

Our dance classes, which run every Saturday (as with all our other courses), are choreographed by Ryan Nembhard.

Their impressive list of credits include:

  • Butlins - Creative Director & Choreographer Electric Circus

  • Frobacks

  • The Greatest Dancer BBC

  • The Voice BBC

  • Sony Music

  • LOL Surprise Dolls

  • Stefflondon

  • MOVE IT

  • Britain’s Got Talent

ACT

From a young age, most of us get a feel for acting, whether playing dress-up, improvising and roleplaying stories with our siblings and playground friends, or getting involved in a school production. When something feels so natural and enjoyable, and has been scientifically proven to nourish our creative imaginations so effectively, it’s sad to think that before long, many of us have given up on this particular type of performance. As a drama school welcoming students from all areas surrounding Purley, Croydon, London and Surrey, we look to encourage burgeoning talents for the stage, while fostering all the transferable skills that acting can help develop.

Our acting classes place a strong focus on script reading, performing monologues, improvisation, building confidence, expressing the self, and even writing for the stage. They also touch on vital, pragmatic skills which any actor-in-training should be taught, such as auditioning and the recording of self-tapes. They’re currently taught by Valentine Olukoga, a veteran actor with a long list of credits to his name, including:

  • Best Male Actor - Black British Theatre Awards

  • In the Land of Saints & Sinners (Netflix)

  • Unforgotten ITV

  • Enterprice BBC

  • The Fisherman (Trafalgar Studios)

  • Liberian Girl (Royal Court Theatre)

  • Agatha Christie's The Hollow (Riverside Studios)

  • BBC Radio 4

Moxie Academy’s current students are currently gearing up for a Summer Production in 2025, We’d love it for new students to get involved, so don’t wait to get in touch and ask about a free trial.

SING

Each and every one of us can sing, even if we’re not always hitting the right notes, and developing our ability to do so while we’re young is a great idea. Not only is expressing yourself via song a great means of becoming more confident in yourself, it’s a lot of fun and an avenue to making fruitful friendships with others who are equally into their music. Many students from around the Purley, Croydon, London and Surrey areas come to pursue vocal training with Moxie Academy, taking singing classes which develop teachable fundamentals around vocal performance, such as breath control and technique, vocal projection and effective warm-ups.

We also go a little further beyond simple vocal training by helping teach song writing and structure, so our students can go beyond simply performing the songs of others, and find unique forms of self-expression. Students can also benefit from exciting opportunities, such as recording in a professional recording studio, while completing their singing classes alongside seasoned industry professional Basia Bozzao. Basia’s credits include:

  • Artist/Songwriter

  • Flames Collective Choir

  • Innovision Artist/Manager

  • Vocal Coach

  • Lead in Vocalize Choir

  • International Music Masterclass Voces8

  • Youth Mental Health Awareness Gala for the Royal Family

  • Music Artist RAYE - Backing Singer
